The right farm irrigation system can mean the difference in profit vs. loss.
———————————-
Knowing just how much water specific crops need is vital to a profitable harvest. Depending on the type of crop, soil quality, tillage, slope, and drainage, one field may need a vastly different amount of water than another.
Especially in dry seasons, farmers need the best farm irrigation system they can find for their crops.
While we can’t control the water Mother Nature provides, we can give her a hand with precision equipment from a Cadman irrigation system.
What is irrigation?
By definition, irrigation is the mechanical application of water to plants. While irrigation systems can be as simple as a sprinkler on a lawn, farm irrigation systems can be huge and quite complex. They can deliver water at specific flow rates and times.
Summer growing seasons benefit from irrigation starting at germination through harvest to supplement lack of rain during draughts. Crops grown in dry climates require a constant, reliable irrigation system to compensate for the lack of rainfall. Some irrigation systems can also deliver nutrients to crops that need a little extra feeding.
How can over-irrigation damage the soil?
There’s no such thing as perfect irrigation. Some areas of your field will get more adequate water supply than others. However, a good quality irrigation system will greatly improve the proper distribution of water.
While parched soil can dehydrate your crops, over-irrigation is just as problematic. Too much water presents several issues:
- Disrupts the oxygen balance in the root zone and decreases water uptake
- Decreases soil pH, which makes the soil acidic and stunts crop growth
- Encourages overgrowth of microbes, which can lead to infections
- Leaches nitrogen and pesticides from soil and into the groundwater
- Wastes water and energy
- Contributes to excess weed growth
- Displaces water already in the ground, leaving behind high concentrations of salt (salinization)
How Cadman makes irrigation simple
Precision and accuracy are key for proper irrigation. Cadman irrigation systems are designed to take the guesswork out of watering. They can be used anywhere that requires careful moisture control: sports fields, farm fields, home gardens, lawns, nurseries, landscaping, cemeteries, soil remediation projects, and more.
Cadman C-Series irrigation travellers are designed for larger operations and can cover up to 12 acres per pull. Cadman 1000-Series mini irrigation travellers are perfect for smaller applications. Cadman’s innovative computer-controlled mini machine with accurate speed compensation is the first of its kind.
All you do is pull out the hose, set the retrieve rate, engage the clutch, and you’re done. If you want an inch of water per minute, that’s what you’ll get.
Many irrigation problems result from damage to hoses due to weak materials and faulty reels. Cadman irrigation travellers have a rugged frame built from 2” x 2” heavy wall tubing matted with a 10-gauge skin for superior strength. The hose guide system keeps the hose in place, while the auto-stop immediately engages to prevent hose damage if there is any malfunction.
